Questions?

December 15, 2009 at 10:18 pm | In Youth Group | Leave a Comment

I love asking questions; it’s the quickest way to learn. I try to think of myself as a news reporter or a police detective when I study God’s Word. I interrogate the text and ask it tons of questions. I believe that the Bible is living and active—and I want to learn everything I can from it! In order to know the answers—I need to ask the right questions. At youth group on Sunday we asked these basic questions from the text that we studied:

Who are the main characters in this story?

What are the main characters saying or doing in this story?

Why is this message important?

How can I use this message in my life?

These are not the only questions you can ask when studying God’s Word—but it is a great place to start! You can use these questions for any passage of Scripture. Try it this week and connect with God through His Word.

Praying for YOU!

November 18, 2009 at 1:45 pm | In Beacon Kidz, Children's Church, Prayer, Sunday School, Youth Group | Leave a Comment

I pray for you every chance I get!

I spend a lot of time in my car going to from the church each week. I often spend that time praying for church. (And yes, my eyes are open while I am praying and driving)!

I also want you to know that I pray for you specifically–by name. I pray specific things for each of you, and I also pray for specific things for different families in our church as well. I believe that prayer is one of the essential (if not the most essential) ministries of the church. I believe that this is GOD’S church, and that we must partner with him. Prayer is one of the primary ways we stay connected to God.

I love praying for you, and I love when you share requests with me—it helps me know how to pray for you! Feel free to make a comment on this blog and tell me a current prayer request, or find me at church sometime.

I love to pray—and I pray for you every chance I get!

What is the Church?

October 26, 2009 at 1:06 am | In Youth Group | Leave a Comment

the compassThis week at youth group we discussed why the church exists.

We studied Hebrews 10:24-25, and we talked about how important it is to encourage one another and hold each other accountable.

We need each other!

We started out with some great small group discussion time.

I was proud of what our students came up with. Here is what they said:

-The church is God’s people and not the building.

-The church is loved by God (his Bride) and not something he hates.

-The church is a safe place that builds people up and not where people are treated badly.

-The church is a body (Christ is the head) and it is not a place of disunity.

-The church is fantabulous and not lame!

-The church is Mountain Dew for Christians and not Dr. Pepper!

Great stuff! We connect to God through God’s people!

Reflection on Prayer

October 26, 2009 at 12:23 am | In Sunday Morning Worship | Leave a Comment

Prayer is one of the primary ways in which we grow in our relationship with God—it’s how we connect with Him! James preached a great sermon on prayer this morning, and here are some of the things that really stuck out to me:

-Prayer is crying out to God (Psalm 142:1)

-You can complain to God in prayer (Psalm 142:2)

-Prayer is confession (Psalm 142:3)

-You can pray to God because he cares for you (Psalm 142:4-5).

-Prayer is a call for rescue (Psalm 142:6-7).

One of the best ways we can learn how to pray is by looking at examples found in God’s Word. I’d encourage to open up your Bible to Psalm 142 and use it as a guideline for praying this week.

Connect through Baptism!

October 15, 2009 at 5:11 am | In Youth Group | 2 Comments

I love this clip…Baptism is always a celebration!

We have been exploring some of the core Christian beliefs at Youth Group this semester. This Sunday night we will talking about baptism!

I am excited about this for two reasons:

1. It will serve as a great reminder for those who have already been baptized.

2. It will be a simple message of love and grace for those who have not yet made that decision.

It will be great! I can’t wait to connect with you on Sunday Night!

See you there!

Let’s Connect!

I absolutely loved playing with LEGOS as a kid. (Actually, I still enjoy playing with LEGOS on occasion)! When I was growing up, I always asked for LEGOS for Christmas and my birthday; LEGOS were the best! I was even had a subscription to the LEGO maniac monthly magazine! My sisters and I spent hours and hours being entertained by building and constructing all sorts of things out of brightly colored connecting blocks.

lego

According to research there are about 62 LEGO bricks for every one of the world’s 6 billion inhabitants. 19 billion LEGO elements are produced every year. 2.16 million LEGO elements are molded every hour, or 36,000 per minute. More than 400 billion LEGO bricks have been produced since 1949. The LEGO bricks sold in one year would circle the world 5 times. That’s a lot of building!

It’s pretty incredible really. LEGOS are more than just plain old blocks. What makes a LEGO special is the fact that they connect. LEGOS can connect in so many ways. Mathematicians state that there are more than 915 million combination possible for six 2 x 4 LEGO bricks of the same color. That’s a lot of connecting!

It is the desire of this church to see people connect with God. As a youth ministry, we are passionate about seeing students connect with God through discipleship, fellowship, and worship.

I love constructing things out of LEGOS, but I am even more excited about helping students build on a solid foundation. Our ministry invites you to connect. With God’s help, we can build something that will honor him. Let’s connect!
